Comment

Second wine of Château d'Issan (3rd Grand Cru Classé), produced from the youngest vines. “Regum mensis aris que deorum”: “For the table of kings and the altar of the gods”, this is the motto of Issan Castle. Indeed, this wine was served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henri Plantagenêt in 1152. It is also found at the court of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph, in Vienna, a few centuries later. Since 1945, the estate, with its splendid medieval-style castle, has been in the hands of the Cruse family, who manage it with passion. Under the direction of Lionel Cruse, the castle was restored, the facilities modernized and the vineyard replanted. Since 1998, thanks to the investments made by his son Emmanuel Cruse in the vineyard and the cellars, Issan wines reflect more than ever the authenticity of the Margaux terroir. In 2012, the Lorenzetti family became 50% associated.

Tasting

The 2015 vintage of Blason d’Issan presents a dark garnet color with mauve highlights. Its bouquet is precise and bright, scented with black cherry and blueberry scents, a touch of graphite mine in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a mineral structure on the attack. Harmonious on the palate, with such a disarming silky texture, don't let its status as a second wine prevent you from noticing its structure until the finish. This Issan Coat of Arms is a beautiful achievement.
