Comment

Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest in Bordeaux. We have to go back to 1234 to find traces of Ramon Carbonnieux who left his name to this estate founded in the 13th century by the Benedictines of the Abbey of Sainte-Croix. It passed into the hands of different families before Marc Perrin bought it in 1956 after its first classification as a Grand Cru de Graves in 1953, confirmed in 1959 during the official classification of Grands Crus de Graves. Since then, in small steps, this vast property of 170 hectares of land, including 92 hectares of vines, has continued to evolve with increasing quality year after year. It is the grandsons, Eric and Philibert Perrin, who today manage the Carbonnieux estate, whose turrets of the Château constitute the highest point of the commune of Léognan.

Tasting

Both modern and traditional, the vinification of red wines is carried out with slow and gentle extraction in order to preserve their roundness and the mineral typicity of their terroir. The tannins are balanced and silky in harmony with the red fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry, etc.) revealing toasted notes imparted by aging in high-quality French oak barrels. Only the best batches tasted will enter the final composition of the Château Carbonnieux red classified growth.
