Prohibition has just ended... Ernest and Julio Gallo travel the country selling grapes from their family vineyard, but what they really want to do is start a winery. So they set about reading all the books on winemaking at the local library in Modesto and learning the trade on their own. They borrow from Ernest's mother-in-law to make their dream come true with the creation of Cellar E.
