Comment

On the Puy Notre Dame hill, a majestic 11th century collegiate church dominates the vineyard; it is the highest point of Saumur. The Manoir de la Tête Rouge was built in 1649 at the foot of this hill, in the village but outside the walls. It was in 1995 that Guillaume Reynouard acquired the property with 10 hectares of vines, including the Enchentoir plot. The vines are planted on the best clay-limestone terroirs of Saumur. The first restoration to make it a residential house and a winery was completed in 1996, accompanied by the purchase of 4 additional hectares. In 1998, the conversion to ECOCERT-certified organic farming was necessary, the first “organic” vintage was made in 2001. The conversion to biodynamics, certified by BIODYVIN, took place in 2010, followed in 2013 by an acquisition of 4, 8 hectares of cabernet franc already cultivated biodynamically. The Manoir de la Tête Rouge is part of the AMAP (Association for the Maintenance of Peasant Agriculture) of Doué la Fontaine and consumes mainly from local producers.

Tasting

Beautiful balance between a very frank attack, a finish full of freshness and between the two, a pleasant sensation of softness, silkiness. Aromas of white flowers and citrus notes top it off. Superb wine which demonstrates that Chenin thrills the taste buds. Perfect with asparagus with white butter sauce, pea cream with bacon, mushroom soup or scrambled eggs.
